I’m really pleased to announce a new work shadowing opportunity in my office. The shadowing placement will take place from the 25-28 July 2023, with an opportunity to visit my team in parliament the week before. You can find out more details below.

Who is it for?

Applicants will be aged 16-21, have a firm interest in politics, current affairs, and social and environmental justice, and will have a connection to Sheffield.

What does it involve?

Running from Tuesday 25th July to Friday 28th July, you’ll accompany me on visits and shadow me in meetings with my staff team and the variety of people and organisations I meet in my work as the Member of Parliament for Sheffield Hallam. The placement will take place in the first week of the parliamentary recess, so it’ll be based in Sheffield Hallam, although there will be the opportunity to visit my office in Westminster for a day the week before (the week commencing 17th July – expenses will be covered).

I don’t believe in unpaid internships, so this will be a shadowing opportunity – there won’t be any work involved – but it is an opportunity to experience what an MP’s office is like and see what kind of things they, and the people who work for them, do on a day-to-day basis.

How do I apply?

If you’d like to apply, send a CV and cover letter to olivia.blake.mp@parliament.uk by 5pm on Monday 3rd July. In your cover letter, you should outline a political or social issue you think is important, why you think it is important, and why you are applying for the shadowing opportunity. My office will aim to let the successful applicant know in the week commencing 10th July.
