Welcome to my monthly newsletter, keeping you updated on my work as your Member of Parliament. I know the last few months have been really difficult for many across our city. Many people have contacted me about the huge mortgage rate rises. Others are struggling to keep up with energy bills. Liz Truss’ whole premiership was a shambles – a shambles which has caused untold damage to people in our city and across the country. But whilst I am glad to see Truss go, I also know that changing the person at the top won’t change the reality for the millions of people struggling right now. The whole Tory party are complicit in the damage they have done to our economy and democracy. Only a general election and a Labour government will bring about the transformation people in our city so desperately need. You can watch my question to the then Chancellor on their disastrous budget here . I also recorded this video calling out the Government on their plans for austerity 2.0. |
This month I am holding two events in Sheffield Hallam. This Friday I will be holding an open meeting with Sheffield residents and Mayor Oliver Coppard to discuss cuts to bus services across our city. You can RSVP below. The following Friday i will be holding a Zoom call to mark a year on from COP26 and our Hallam Citizens Climate Manifesto. You can read more about the event below. |
Last month I joined colleagues, campaigners, Labour Party members and NGOs at Labour Party Conference in Liverpool. Thank you to everyone who emailed me and asked me to attend an event or stall. Here is a summary of what I got up to. I was pleased to see a number of important motions passed during the conference, including proportional representation (which I know many in our constituency have been campaigning for), a £15 minimum wage and public ownership. You can read about all of the policy motions passed on the conference floor here. From delivering a zero-carbon energy system by 2030 and the creation of a publicly-owned energy company, to nationalising the UK’s railways and a new Hillsborough Law, there were also a lot of good policies announced over the week. You can read about them here. I wrote this piece for Labour List on the Party’s vision for climate action. |
I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of the Queen in September. I know she was much loved by many across our city and I have enjoyed people’s memories of her visits to Yorkshire. I joined the tributes in Sheffield and in Parliament and attended the King’s address in Westminster. You can read what else I have been up to in Sheffield and in Parliament below. |

The UK government could approve Rosebank, the largest undeveloped oil field in the North Sea, any day. Together we stopped the Cambo oil field. Now we need to Stop Rosebank too. Please join the campaign. |
I am continuing to campaign against the cruel Rwanda policy which last month went to the courts. You can find out more about the campaign and how to get involved here: |
