Through a wave of recent legislation, from CHIS (‘spy cops’) Bill, the Nationalities and Borders Bill, and of course the Policing Bill—which instigated last summer’s Kill the Bill rallies—this Government has launched the biggest attack on civil liberties in living memory.

The creation of anti-civil liberties infrastructure is part of a wider trend toward authoritarianism, which needs to be resisted by politicians, campaign groups, and civil society alike.

I’ve organised a Festival of Debate session as part of their Future of Democracy Hub Day on 21st May.

Joining me for this event will be:

  • Baroness Shami Chakrabarti (former Director of Liberty and former Shadow Attorney General)
  • Delia Mattis (Black Lives Matter Coalition)
  • Chris Hockney (Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign)
  • Emmott Baddeley (Sheffield Against the Policing Bill)

Join us for a discussion of what’s been proposed, and how we can resist.

Our session will be held at 3:30pm, and I strongly encourage people to attend for the rest of the sessions too.

You can register here.
