Welcome to my regular newsletter, keeping you updated on my work as your Member of Parliament. Firstly I want to thank everyone who has gotten in touch with me about the horrific situation in Afghanistan. It is unbearably sad and distressing, especially for those that have friends and family unable to leave. My office and I have been working hard to support people, and I have raised my deep concerns with the Government’s response. I will continue to do everything I can to support those stuck in Afghanistan, as well as campaign to secure amnesty for all Afghans in the UK, ensure safe routes are provided for everyone fleeing war and violence, and step up my fight against the Anti-Refugee Bill. With Parliament on a break for August I have had time to catch up with constituents in Hallam. I have been out leafleting with volunteers and talking to people across the constituency about the issues they would like me to focus on in the Autumn. I have also launched a consultation for Hallam residents, following the shocking rise in abuse of front-line workers over the past year. I have heard story after story of constituents who have experienced verbal and physical abuse from customers on a near daily basis, and will be working hard to change the law so that everyone is protected in their place of work. You can read more about the campaign and how to get involved below! I am also really looking forward to our next Hallam Climate Manifesto assembly in two weeks time, where we will be joined by TV presenter and conservationist Chris Packham and Royal Society for Protection of Birds to discuss the extremely important issue of nature and biodiversity. If you have yet to come along to one of these events, please don’t miss it! |

• With less than 2 months to go until COP26 I met with Hallam residents, Common Wealth and Unite the Union as part of our Hallam Climate Manifesto project, to discuss how we can push for an ambitious Green Industrial Strategy to address the Climate Emergency and deliver real social and economic justice. Thank you so much to everyone who came! |

• Following the tragic death of Mohammed Munib Majeedi, I joined with Labour MPs in Sheffield to send our deepest condolences to the child’s family and friends for their heartbreaking loss. We also wrote a letter to the Home Secretary about the suitability of the Refugee and Asylum accommodation and calling for urgent lessons to be learnt to ensure this never happens again.
