After the seriously worrying reports of appalling and inhumane conditions at Napier and Penally barracks, it is even more vital that the government publish their long awaited independent review of initial accommodation for asylum seekers.

By further delaying the publication, the government leave us with no option but to believe the worst – that those companies paid by the Home Office to provide initial accommodation are failing to follow Covid guidelines and subjecting asylum seekers to inhuman conditions.

Earlier this month I asked the Minister about this delay and was assured that the report would be published once the Home Office has responded to it. But we are still yet to see anything and every day that goes by is another day in which the government could, and should, be implementing the findings of the report, and improving conditions at these centres. I will continue to push the government on this dangerous lack of transparency. You can read my question, and the government’s response here.
