In 2019-20 the UK Government spent on transport:
- £408 per person in London
- £125 per person in Yorkshire
- And £82 per person in the North East
For a government supposedly committed to “levelling up”, cutting Transport for the North’s budget by 40% therefore seems like an odd move.
Addressing these disparities is essential to tackle regional inequities, as well as to create capacity for our region to face up to the climate crisis.
