😊 This week I welcomed changes to NHS rules so that pregnant women can have one person with them at all times during maternity appointments, labour and after birth. I have been campaigning on this issue ever since my constituents raised it with me earlier this year, and I have spoken out about my own experience on Radio 4. 🤦♀️ I challenged the government in Parliament over their so-called “oven ready” trade bill and their failure to guarantee environmental, agricultural, animal welfare or food standards, parliamentary scrutiny, a commitment to human rights, or protections for the NHS in future trading relationships.
🏘️ I wrote a piece for The House about Starter Homes and the desperate need for a clear roadmap to end the cycle of failed housing policies.
🖊️ I’ve signed Jo Stevens’s letter calling on British Gas to take away the fire and rehire threat to British Gas workers and get a negotiated agreement with GMB Union. I signed another cross party letter calling on the government to help vulnerable refugee children safely reach the UK.
🏫 Too often those most affected by Covid, those with learning disabilities, are given the least thought. So this week I raised a number of issues with the government during a Westminster Hall debate on the effect of covid on people with learning disabilities.
🌍 I challenged Robert Jenrick MP over proposed green belt building targets and asked him to confirm they won’t be imposed on Sheffield.
💻 I asked the minister how the Online Harms Bill will tackle disinformation so we can properly hold platforms to account for dangerous content spread through their channels.
🚌 I met with the Managing Director of First Bus South Yorkshire and Midlands, to discuss sustainability, plans to modernise the bus fleet, and to raise how rules to mitigate covid have affected blind and partially sighted passengers and their plans for modifying the services.
🌱 I met with Labour for a Green New Deal activists to discuss their ongoing campaigns to build a local Green New Deal in Sheffield.
