In 2015, the government promised first-time buyers 200,000 discounted Starter Homes. Five years later and still none have been delivered. This week, as a member of the Public Accounts Committee, I asked officials at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government when will homes will be available under their new scheme, First Homes. They told me they were not setting targets.

The government are stuck in a cycle of policy invention, abandonment & reinvention, stringing expectant young people along. They need to ditch the false promises and set out clear, staged, funded plans.
